Home of Lifelong Learners
Dear Louverture School Families,
At Louverture School, we believe in educating the whole child—not just academically, but socially and emotionally as well. This school year, we are excited to announce our continued commitment to supporting the social-emotional growth of our scholars and their families through the implementation of the DESSA SEL (Social Emotional Learning) Framework.
The DESSA (Devereux Student Strengths Assessment) is a research-based system that helps schools build and strengthen students’ social-emotional skills, leading to increased academic achievement, stronger relationships, and improved emotional well-being.
For the 2025–2026 school year, our schoolwide focus will be on three key DESSA pillars:
1. Self-Management
Helping students develop the ability to regulate emotions, manage time, and follow through with responsibilities—even when faced with challenges.
2. Optimistic Thinking
Fostering a positive mindset in our students, encouraging them to set goals, persevere through setbacks, and believe in their own success.
3. Responsible Decision-Making
Teaching students how to make ethical, constructive choices about their behavior and interactions, both in and outside of the classroom.
These focus areas will be woven into daily classroom instruction, morning meetings, school events, and family engagement activities. We believe that by nurturing these skills, we are preparing our scholars to thrive not only in school, but in life.
We invite you to join us in supporting these efforts at home. Throughout the year, we will share resources and strategies that you can use with your child to reinforce these important social-emotional skills.
Thank you for your partnership and for being an essential part of our school community. Together, we can help our scholars become confident, compassionate, and responsible learners and leaders.
